“A Tea-Cup”
A teacup given the weight of a temple
Black ink and a cup that holds more black.
Light runs down its side in white scratches, like rain on a window.
A spoon rests on the plate with its bowl still bright.
Around them the table fills with white dots, salt spilled in the dark.
No steam. No sound.
The tea waits the way a morning waits.
The work
Aman Kumar is a printmaker from Ludhiana. His college is RIMT University. This 2025 print shows a quiet table. A cup with a handle stands in front of a tall dark pot. Behind them lies a round plate with a spoon on its rim. Thin white lines cut into the black give each object its curve and shine. Hundreds of white dots fill the space around them. Most of Kumar's recent prints turn to old buildings and sacred stories. Here he gives a tea cup the same weight.

To bring these to life, I primarily worked with woodcuts for the landscape and narrative pieces, carving into the blocks to create intense, graphic blacks and crisp white negative spaces. For the cathedral piece, I switched gears and used an etching/intaglio technique, which allowed me to get those sketchy, fine architectural lines and a rich,…
