The Open Studio / Deepak
Deepak
In his own world
The shutters are open but his mind is in the paper
Green shutters stand open like two hands at rest.
Behind him, rolls of cloth hang in yellow, pink and sea blue.
The wall is an old blue, rubbed thin, with a little rose at the edge.
His white shirt holds most of the light in the picture.
The bench takes his weight without a sound.
The folded paper is the only room he needs.
The work
Deepak paints an older man reading a newspaper on a wooden bench. He sits with his legs crossed. He wears a white shirt and glasses. Behind him, green shutters open on a small space hung with rolls of cloth. A box with a red cover rests beside him. Deepak is from the College of Art in New Delhi. He makes this 2025 work in poster colour on paper. He gives a quiet daily habit his full attention.
In the artist’s words
“Someone reading the newspaper in the morning can be a simple activity, but it can also show a moment of concentration, peace, curiosity or personal space. I want to show these ordinary activities as meaningful moments rather than routine actions. The objects around a person are not only background; they tell us something about the person's life, routine and work.”
