Bhaskar Thakur
6/12
A sunflower takes the wheel of a very large shoe
A sky made of small blue tiles, like a screen that has not finished loading.
The road runs straight to one striped balloon.
Someone in a pink shirt drives a shoe the size of a car.
Where a face should be, only yellow petals.
Under the shoe, a red patch of warm ground.
Everything far away is soft. Only the ride is clear.
The work
Bhaskar Thakur paints 6/12 in oil on canvas in 2025. The sky, the fields and the road break into small squares of colour. Only a few things stay sharp: a giant green and cream shoe, a striped hot air balloon and a figure at a steering wheel. A sunflower covers the driver's face. The blur is a choice, so that feeling can be sensed without being forced into the open. Thakur's art school is Kala Bhavana in Santiniketan, West Bengal. Thakur is based in Ludhiana.
In the artist’s words
“I soft-focus everything in my work. It is not just a visual trick. It is a deliberate way to push back against a world that demands everything be clear-cut and locked into rigid boxes. My work draws from memory, fantasy, queer desire and ordinary life. Obscurity is my political stance: a refusal of fixed appearances and binary truths.”
